Thanks for the comment Jim Hightower. However I was hoping for something a little more intelligent that just a slam from you. How about a real reply that points out how I am uninformed. Enlighten me.

It is time that social conservatives realise that private companies are not inherently less bureaucratic or more efficient than the State. Huge amounts of health care dollars are wasted on marketing and extra bureaucracy that would not be needed in a State-administered system, including not least the army of bureaucrats who get paid to find reasons to deny your claims. You can never have a real market anyway in a sector where demand is pretty much fixed. Certainly State involvement in a market system exacerbates the problem, making it more inflationary, but the central problem is the market itself.

Certainly some of the bureaucracy would be horrible in a nationally administered system, but all the times I've been in Europe and gone to the doctor, everything was much easier than in the States. But now we have a very parasitic bureaucracy that not only makes access to some health care difficult, it also takes several times as much money as it needs to for services provided.

Some people are making too much money for doing too little! Isn't this a problem for us conservatives not only when it is a welfare queen parasiting off of taxpayers?

Thank you for the reply.

The link you provided to point out the polls has a date of Feb, 2005. Back before the high oil prices hit. The current polls show the mass majority in favor of offshore drilling and opening ANWR. This makes my point perfectly, American's don't think about things until it becomes a problem and then they react.
As far as oil spills and damage caused by offshore drilling. Modern technology has made it safer than ever, case in point, Hurricane Katrina, not one drop of oil spilled. If that doesn't prove safety, I don't know what will.

As far as the general Islamic rule in the middle east. If we didn't buy their oil, we wouldn't be funding the war machines for the Jihadists and anti American sentiment that prevails over there.

Some of the points are valid; I would like to buy American-made goods (both cheap and high-end), and have close to all food produced here. I would like for all our energy to come domestically.

But mixing populist (in the bad way), jingoistic rhetoric with the economics makes for messy, generalizing logic: yes, we get our oil mostly from Arab and Muslim countries. Yes, many extremist groups and terrorist groups are anti-American, and often murderously so. However, what your narrow-minded opinion failed to address is the CAUSES of why groups that hate the American government (or society) rise to power. Who trained bin Laden and supported the Taliban? Who gave chemical weapons to Saddam? When we allow our government to deem common sense and peaceful diplomacy less important than hysterical anti-communism, anti-Iranian control of the region (in the case of Saddam) or anti-terrorism, then these are the results: our government, along with American weapons manufactures, have armed everyone and anyone they saw fit. The results, unfortunately are evident, particularly in the 'Third World' where valuable resources (oil, diamonds, e.g.) are controlled by a wealthy few because they can arm militias with cheap weapons.

Anyway, in regard to drilling off-shore and in ANWR, I don't know if the polls are as the author states:
http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/technologyandresearch/a/anwrsurvey.htm

As well, anyone who's for off-shore drilling should consider the decades of damage done to the ocean's ecosystem by oil spills and other pollution.

Mike, If I wanted to undermine the foundational values of America, about 50 years ago I would have infiltrated every educational institution, public and private and start "re-educating" our youth, from the lowest grades up! That is exactly what has happened and the vehicle upon which that was
launched - the National Education Agency!(NEA)
And it was very tricky as they first infiltrated the legislature which provided the funds to do it!

It is strange that so little;e is ever said or done to reclaim our schools.

I have talked with several active teachers, and they all speak of the ridged structure they are held to. They have lost the ability to discipline, and are required to teach the social issues that they espouse. It is no wonder the youth of America are so mixed up and can hardly read and comprehend right from wrong - even those who have completed 12 years of school. Business men will tell you the difficulty they have in getting workers that have basic skills.
So my question, What can you do about overcoming the great influence the NEA has on our educational system?

Caution, Don't speak too loudly, your name would be mud! and that is exactly the position that many of our elementary, middle and high school teachers are up against.
And don't even mention, "Intelligent design!" See the documentary, "Expelled"

That issue is what I would support because it is the only way out of this mess for future generations.

What is

While I agree that his comment was just plain wrong, and definitely irresponsible. I don't believe it was meant in any way as serious. Mike is always quick with the tongue to get a laugh and sometimes he can just miss, this was one of the those times.

The difference here is, Mike Huckabee was joking. Rev. White was not.

Mike Huckabee has posted an apology on HuckPac.com.

CP

Ashamed as a Christian to hear the comment of Huckabee about someone pointing a gun at another human being, after experiencing three public servants assassinated in my life time.JFK,Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy;not to mention the attempts on Ronald Reagon and Gerald Ford. Such irrespsonsible talk is frightening and Mr. Huckabee should know better. Have lost total respect for the man. He is not the man I thought he was.

I work for at&t in a building with bullent holes, graffiti, broken tiles on the floor, huge cracks in the walls inside and am told at&t cannot afford to fix these problems.
What college grad will want to work in that type of environment? Not many.
What type of people are attracted to that type of environment? Not many.
Maybe Randall needs to inspect offices and make improvements so he can attract people who might be interested in working for at&t.
And maybe find someone qualified to do HIS job!
